Quotes from the Book

"Change isn’t easy, and transition is hard, but retirement is a whole new adventure! With it comes a rollercoaster of emotions as well as a door to opportunity. Our journey together will invite you to walk through that door with confidence, embracing retirement as a new beginning rather than just as a natural ending."

"Retirement is personal, like a painting. Everyone’s retirement will look different, because we are all made to be unique, and with a variety of gifts and abilities, likes and dislikes."

"After attempting to retire from a beloved career several times over, I’ve learned it’s important to explore the social and emotional challenges of retirement with honesty and transparency."

"While we all have different stories and life experiences, we must be willing to share them and learn from each other. This book is meant to give you the benefit of my story and the stories of others. My hope is that you will find common ground in our struggles as well as our triumphs."

"We are all born with an innate desire for purpose. Purpose gives us structure. It organizes our days. It gives us the ability to prioritize our time. It keeps us from aimlessly floating from one activity to the next. … But structuring our day to live within that calling is hard without the defined purpose that comes with a career."

"Even though I had all day to do as I pleased, it felt as though I was paralyzed by my inability to choose what to do first….Secretly, I wanted my day to tell me what to do and to sequence it for me. I woke up every morning with a 24-hour blank slate, with no idea how to fill it, which left me in a bit of an identity crisis."
